Dry Underwater Welding On Tanker By Hydrex In Port of Galveston, TX
On a plate inserted on a tanker truck has been done as a ship hull repair permanent in-situ by Hydrex. A five-man team of certified technicians and divers from the Office of U.S. Hydrex is the ship in the port of Galveston, Texas to do the work in minimum time, therefore keeping the vessel at sea and in business.
The tanker has required an insert of 800 x 490 mm for the bottom of the hull. There was no time for the ship to go to dry dock and the ship delivery schedule required that she stay at sea
Firstly, it was found that the cargo tanks and ballast were free of chemicals and fumes, and the atmosphere was safe for welding and hot work. Then, using their mobdock convenience (short dry dock for the mini-notebook) technology, the Hydrex team has created a dry environment for welding and complete repair of the stable hull while the tanker was in water. Ultrasonic testing has been done to confirm the weld. The team coordinated with the Hydrex Houston DNV (Det Norske Veritas) office and site has been overseen and approved by the ABS (American Bureau of Shipping).
